New Faculty name for next century of Dentistry

In 2020, the Faculty underwent a rigorous process of research, consultation, and surveys to identify a new name that captures the work we do: Dental education, community services and research that go far beyond the dental chair.

Today, dentists have critical role in health care that transcends social barriers and disciplinary boundaries. Dentists and oral health leaders are amongst those who play role in early detection and diagnosis of infectious or life threating diseases and collaborate actively with other health professionals to offer the best treatment for patients suffering from these illnesses. They also decide on important policy interventions that will greatly affect the well-being  across society.

Through our consultation process, one name stood overwhelmingly above all others—one that paid tribute to our history as a dental faculty, but also concretizes our mission of building a healthier society through innovative research in our field. As of January 3rd, 2022, the Faculty of Dentistry is the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences.
