In February 2015, Quebec’s National Assembly adopted An Act to modify the organization and governance of the health and social services network. This law consolidated a majority of the health and social services at the core of a Réseau Territorial de Services (RTS) to either a Centre Intégré de Santé et de Services Sociaux (CISSS) or Centre Intégré Universitaire de Santé et de Services Sociaux (CIUSSS). The main difference between the two designations is that a CIUSSS is located in a health region with a university offering undergraduate medical training or a university institute in the social services domain.
As part of this reorganization, McGill was partnered with two CIUSSSs here in Montreal – CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal – for the purposes of health professional training and research. This is in addition to the education and research mandates the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences shares with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and, through RUISSS McGill, with its partner CISSSs and Indigenous health boards.
