Ranjan holds a position that involves juggling several requests every day. Numerous graduate students and professors need his help to develop analytical methods, analyze samples and train students on different lab techniques and the use of state-of-the-art instruments. At the same time, he ensures proper maintenance of these instruments and organization of the departmental laboratories. Ranjan is a perfect nominee as an unsung hero — it is very challenging to provide support to so many people all wishing their project to be at the top of the priority list, but he goes far beyond what is expected from him. It is extraordinary that Ranjan has been able over the years to not only provide the support expected, but to continue developing his skills and remain aware of scientific advances. Through his creativity, Ranjan has significantly contributed to several research groups and to the success of numerous graduate students.
