Ilana Lederer

Faculty of Law
1975 – 1993 (Deceased)'

Ilana Lederer remains in the hearts of all the students who passed through the Faculty of Law during the almost two decades she worked there as the Student Affairs Officer. Dubbed “mother in law”, she has been described as a quiet, unassuming tower of strength and wisdom, always a reliable oasis of calm, respect and decency for law students, typically during the times of highest stress for students – exams, course selection and scheduling. Former Dean Yves-Marie Morissette has spoken of “her humanity, her kindness with students and staff and her willingness to help,” saying that “she was always concerned about the collective well-being in the Faculty.” In short, she added a great deal to the quality of life in our Faculty and is remembered fondly and lovingly by law students who benefitted from her wise counsel, her quiet support and her incredible willingness to help others.
