Dr. Joyce Rauch

Over many years, Joyce has organized an immunology journal club for graduate students to provide an opportunity for students to learn how to read and critically analyze the literature, develop their presentation skills, and create a community. I participated in these weekly journal clubs during my PhD, and this experience was transformational and central to my development as a scientist. It was one of the most positive, enriching, nurturing, and encouraging aspects of my graduate studies. I know that she has influenced and supported countless scientists over the years. Joyce still organizes these journal clubs every week, completely voluntarily because she values supporting young graduate students. She does this completely under the radar, without any recognition or public thanks, because it is the right thing to do and because she knows it makes a difference. She is the very definition of an “unsung hero” in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
