In 1971, the Faculty of Education established a two-year teaching certificate program for Indigenous people as part of a broader movement to improve higher education for Indigenous students in Quebec.
McGill also hosted the newly incorporated Native North American Studies Institute in Morrice Hall, established in March of 1971 by the McGill University Intertribal Council of Native Students.
